Intercambio (2015)

Digital c-prints, 8x10 inch, grid.

Intercambio, 2015, is a performance documented through self-portraiture mapping out an exchange of artifacts of performance. While documenting queer performance within nightlife spaces in Brooklyn in 2015, I began to exchange photographs from portrait sessions with performers for costume pieces from their respective performance wardrobes. Using mannequins as representations of a body and my own body, I brought each artifact, along with my own articles of performance that were found or given to me, into a studio and documented myself and the artifacts in various poses and gestures.

This performance of exchange investigates each objects quality of preciousness or insignificance through a system of valuation. I recompose and redistribute the artifact to contend their condition as merely an object, art object, or objects that function as material for constructing and producing a performance of identity.
